The Lucky Orange Shishito Pepper
1 in 10 Shishito peppers has a kick of heat. But finding an orange Shishito in your mix is even more rare.
Are all Shishito peppers green? Most of the time, yes. If you just got home from your grocery shop and find an orange variety in your Ark Foods Shishito peppers, well, consider yourself lucky!
What makes a Shishito pepper orange?
The color of a pepper that you find on your plate is determined by when it was picked off the field. Younger peppers will have a greenish hue. As they mature, the color transitions to orange, and eventually will turn red.
With Shishito peppers, the color of the pepper has no impact on the spice level. As a rule of thumb, 1 in 10 Shishito peppers has a kick of heat, no matter if it’s green, orange, or yes, even red!
At Ark Foods, we strive to pick Shishito peppers that are the “perfect” shade of green, but more colorful peppers will find their way into our Shishito tote, party pack, and cooking kit from time to time.
Can I eat orange Shishito peppers?
Yes! Orange and red Shishito peppers are totally safe to cook and eat. Plus, you’ll get bonus points for even more colors on your plate.
